“My Mommy Went to the Store...”

A FUN and FREE game to target vocabulary and turn taking skills.

You take turns with your child saying “My Mommy/Daddy went to the store and got…”

There are a few variations you can make to this game:

-For small children you can use pictures like these, and place them in a basket once they are labeled.

-You can incorporate some phonological awareness goals, by selecting a letter/sound, and name only items that begin with that sound. For example, /b/ for bread, beans, banana, etc.

- You can reinforce your child’s second language, by playing the game in his/her non-dominant language.

-You can target different categories by changing the carrier phrase. For example

Animals: “I went to the zoo and saw..”

Clothing: “I open the dresser and got my…”

Transportation: “I’m going to visit grandma by…”

The options are limitless... Can you think of any other variations for this game?
